Rhyming

For those who are up to the translation challenge, I put these prefaces, which aren’t important to the lesson (or to much of anything), but which may or may not occasionally have some interesting tidbit of information. More rarely, they may be funny. This preface will be neither, and to those who have already expended considerable effort translating it, I apologize.

When two words rhyme, it means that they sound the same. For example, the word run and the word fun have the same pronunciation, except for the r and f. Other examples of words that rhyme are name and game, or bake and cake. You can find other rhyming words in this online rhyming dictionary; just write the word you want to rhyme, and click on “Rhyme”.

For the lesson on Wednesday (or Thursday, for those of you in 5th), you need to do a little preparation. For the class, look for three pairs of words that rhyme. For the classes that have not received eggs, if you bring more than three pairs, I will give your class eggs. But! You have to know the meanings of the rhyming words; I will not accept unemployed and sternocleidomastoid.

Consiste en recopilar todos los esquemas que llevamos hasta hoy de Conocimiento y compartirlos conmigo por "Google docs" Es un trabajo como dije libre y voluntario. Los podeis hacer en grupos (máximo de tres) o individualmente.

¿Qué ganais vosotros? Además de serviros de repaso de cara a los exámenes, aprendereis a manejar otra herramienta de vuestro "gmail" y por supuesto... ¡medio punto más por trabajo! siempre y cuando esté bien hecho y con un máximo de un punto por examen. Además, los mejores se publicarán en este blog y servirán de recurso a vuestros compañeros.

Tacoma!

Hmm; suddenly I feel in the spotlight. Anyway, my apologies for what will be a short first post, as I figure out what to do with a class blog. That said, and without further ado…
Tacoma is a great city (in my opinion, at least); it’s next to the water, and it’s beautiful at night. The people are friendly, and there are many things to see and do. Here are some of them:

The Taste of Tacoma
The Taste of Tacoma is an annual event in the summer where people can taste many different types of food from restaurants and food companies in Tacoma (very similar to Alimensur in Jaén). There are also concerts and other entertainment; it’s very fun.

The Tacoma Youth Symphony Association (TYSA)
The TYSA is a music association for students in Tacoma. Schools are different in Tacoma (as you know), and we haven’t got conservatories like Spain; most schools have orchestras, but they’re usually very small. The TYSA has many orchestras, for children from elementary school to high school. I played in the TYSA for many years, and enjoyed it very much.

The Museum of Glass
You probably think the Museum of Glass is for windows or glasses, but it’s not for that kind of glass. A famous artist named Dale Chihuly came from Tacoma, and makes things out of coloured glass, so we like glass art a lot. In the museum, there are a lot of beautiful sculptures, and they’ve got a furnace, and you can watch people make things out of glass (it can be very hot!). On the third Thursday of every month, the museum (and all the museums in Tacoma) are free.

Hola a todos. Después de las esperadas vacaciones de Semana Santa comenzamos el que será el último trimestre del curso 2009 / 2010. Espero que este descanso os haya servido para coger fuerzas de cara a este duro empujón que nos queda.

El motivo de este post es informaros y al mismo tiempo dar la bienvenida a William y a Larisa al blog. Desde aquí tendreis acceso mutuo los unos con los otros. De hecho, William irá dejando todas las semanas los "Topics" (temas) de sus clases. Espero que disfruteis y podais aprovechar todo lo que nos irán contando y enseñando estos maestros.
